Pharmaceutical Biology is the discipline dealing with drug substances of biogenic origin in the largest sense, their production, chemistry, effects and uses. Drugs of biogenic origin encompass a wide spectrum, ranging from medicinal plants used as herbal teas to phytomedicines, single purified compounds of plant or microbial origin, and substances, mostly of proteinaceous nature, produced by classical biotechnology or genetic engineering.
